THE PITCH

Every month I will look at a property and give my thoughts on how it could work in another medium. First up:

JUDGE DREDD

Poor ol' Joe Dredd has had it rough. First he had to suffer the indignity of 1995's dire Judge Dredd then his reboot was criminally neglected (SFX has a well considered blog on the matter). But, that shouldn't keep a good, fascist lawman out of the live action arena.

Medium: TV

If Game of Thrones can bring us enthralling tales of medieval politics and brutality then it stands to reason that Dredd can bring tales of politics and brutality set in a across futuristic landscape. Dredd, however, would not have the sprawling cast of most TV shows, focusing more on the Dredd himself and bringing in other Judges like Hershey and Anderson where necessary.

An uncompromising Dredd TV show would thrive on a channel like HBO in America or BBC3/Sky Atlantic over here in the UK. Dredd could provide us with a police procedural with biting satire and hardcore sci fi concepts.

Dreamcast:

Adam Baldwin as Judge Dredd
