This month sees the release of the remade version of RoboCop. I love the original, it is was a rare 18 certificate movie that I was allowed to watch by my folks. The sequels, cartoon and TV series however... So, anyway, it got me to thinking what 80's movie that I look on with fondness would I like to see remade.

To be fair, Hollywood have been trying to get this off the ground for a while.

As with all new iterations/remakes of an existing property, it is better to keep the concept but create something new so that it does not seem like a bad cover version of the original. Highlander, at it's core has a strong concept.

In NuHighlander the story would be different from the original though the non-linear past and present narrative would be retained. As would mentor/mentee relationship between Ramirez and MacLoed with the Kurgan as the big bad. So, whilst the main three of MacLoed, the Kurgan and Ramirez remain all the other characters surrounding them would change to make it more "fresh" than a simple retread.

It would also be important that MacLoed and the Kurgan are not the final two competing for the prize. It is more an ancient grudge match. This would allow for a franchise to be built. The original movies having painted themselves into a corner after the first movie.

My choices for the main roles? James McAvoy as Connor MacLoed (yeah, lets get a Scot to play a Scot this time round), Antonio Banderas as Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez (yeah, lets get a Spaniard to play a Spaniard too) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as The Kurgan.

As for a director? My choice would be James Mangold as he is able to combine the narrative needs and action needs of the movie whilst also exploring the themes of the film.

Come on, Hollywood, make this happen.
