It was 75 years ago today that two young men from Cleveland saw their character debut in Action Comics #1. In a 13 page story a strange visitor from another planet (who was faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound) burst onto the scene and created not only a new genre but an entire industry.

It wasn't just the Man of Steel that was introduced in that story, but also Lois Lane. A character ahead of her time that has become an icon in her own right.

In the last 75 years thousands across countless mediums and every walk of life have contributed to the legends of Lois Land and Clark Kent/Kal El/SUPERMAN! But, it all started with two young men from Cleveland...

Across the web this milestone is being recognised and celebrated (and, in a year when Man of Steel will be released, there is surely going to be a lot more celebrations of the character) but here are some of my picks:

Newsarama has posted an infograph of Superman's timeline from 1938 to 2013. Whilst, CBR has compiled the 75 Greatest Superman Stories.
