Black Widow is playing a pivotal role (as she did in the Avengers) in the Captain America sequel and Black Canary is also playing a pivotal role in Arrow. However, there are no female superhero films on the horizon. Hell, even the biggest female superhero of all, Wonder Woman, is slated to appear in Man of Steel 2: Superman vs Batman before she is slated to appear in her own movie.

So, this month, I am going to pick the female superheroes I would like to see on the silver screen.

There are SPOILERS for Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Yes, this is a "well, d'uh" pick as well as a "wait, didn't you just say she is going to be in another movie first"? Well, yes I did. A movie about Diana can spin out of the Man of Steel 2 (preferably as a prequel adapting this). Wonder Woman is the premier superheroine. She deserves her moment to shine. With the recent news that the WB are going to announce a series of DC based flicks, don't be surprised to see Diana on that list.

Another "well, d'uh". Widow has now been in three Marvel movies. Natasha Romanov is easily the best thing in Cap 2. She is a badass. This could be Marvel's, female, answer to the Batman and Bond franchises. The latest Captain America has also set up what her movie could be with Natasha now finding her place on the world with the demise of S.H.I.E.L.D.

They tried to get going a Shazam movie for some time, but it seems to have fallen by the wayside since Man of Steel rebooted the Superman movie franchise as it thought that a Shazam movie my (ironically) draw comparisons to the Last Son of Krypton. Whats the best way to avoid that? Replace Billy Batson with Mary Batson and tell the exact same story just with a female lead instead of a male one.

Tried and failed previously (oh, what a failure). However, Hathaway as Selina Kyle in The Dark Knight Rises was all shades of awesome. Whilst it is unlikely given the new universe the WB seems to be building for its DC properties out of Man of Steel, a prequel of the events in TDKR focusing on Selina Kyle would be very cool indeed.

Not sure the rights issue with Marvel and Sony on this one. However, if Marvel own the rights to Jessica Drew then this could be a way to filmically cash in on their Spider franchise. But maybe use one of the other Spider-Man costume designs for the film...

There are rumblings from Disney that they want to launch individual franchises spun out from Star Wars. Well, how about a series based on a kick-ass female Jedi slash bounty hunter?

Power Girl and Huntress teaming up on the big screen in a superhero tinged buddy movie. Think The Heat with superpowers.
