AH, WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN...

SUPERMAN LIVES!


Superman died and it was huge! So huge that the Bros. Warner realised the character was in their portfolio and they bought the rights back from the Salkands and handed the franchise over to Jon Peters with a view of making a movie from the biggest selling comic story of all time. And so began the Last Son of Krypton's time in Development Hell...


At one point during the development of the script the WB brought in indie filmmaker, and comic fan, Kevin Smith to take a pass at the script. It was not smooth, but I'll let Mr Smith tell it in his own words:


Peters and the WB decided to bring in a director who had already hit big with another superhero, creating a franchise cash cow for the studio, Tim Burton. With Nic Cage attached as the Man of Steel, the WB was so convinced that the film would be made they unleashed a teaser poster:



However, the film would continue to wallow in development for almost a decade even though design work was underway. Fortunately, these designs have not remained hidden in a vault somewhere:
